Although
not a large resort, the importance of Vitznau was established with
the construction of the Vitznau-Rigi Bahn, the world's first
cog-wheel mountain railway. A favoured excursion from the end of the
19th century, the magnificent views from Rigi continue to attract
tourists in large numbers.
