Paddle Cargo Vessels - DDSG (Erste Donau
Dampfschiffahrts-Gesellschaft)
Carl of 1842 and
Leoplold of 1850 were the first two vessels in what was a
comparatively small DDSG cargo fleet and remained in use until 1877
and 1871 respectively. A number of new freight-only ships were added
in the 1850s but these were screw steamers, the form of propulsion
used for all subsequent cargo vessels.
