LEOPOLDINA RAILWAY Co, Rio de Janeiro

The Leopoldina Railway operated an extensive network of lines in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the eastern part of Minas Gerais and the southern part of Espirito Santo. The British-owned company was created through the amalgamaton of thirty-eight separate companies, any with different track gauges and operating in difficult terrais, some using the rack and pinion principle.

Transferred to the Caledonian Steam Packet Co in December 1888 along with the goodwill of the Campbell business

Leopoldina (1903-1918)

Sold in 1918 to the Cia Nacional de Navigacao Costeira,
Converted to screw propulsion with diesel engines and renamed Itaicy. Scrapped in 1947
